Forgiveness of yourself is by far the hardest, you can forgive the bully, you can forgive a mean father or neglectful mother, but forgiving yourself is somehow different, but it shouldn’t be.
We often hold on to our mistakes, little or big, as self-punishment, even if consciously we are not aware of it. We ruminate about past conversations, the actions we took or didn’t take and we constantly remind our self that we are not good enough. It’s a vicious cycle. Unforgiveness of our self can cause us to second guess our decisions, it blocks trust. When we criticize and remind our self of what we don’t do right or when we hold onto past mistakes it lowers our self-worth.
