When You Feel Lost, Do This One Thing
There are moments in all our lives where we just don’t know…
We don’t know what we are doing…how we feel…or what we should be doing next…
We are a dull mess of anxiety or confusion…
We don’t know how to start…or the next step to take…
We feel like we have lost our bearings and the weight on our shoulders is growing…
We have tried to “motivate” ourselves to action…any action that will take us out of our funk…
Or we have done everything we know how to do…and yet…
We can’t see progress…or the proverbial ‘light at the end of the tunnel’…
We are awash in good intentions left undone…
But here we sit…sidelined by circumstance or our own inability to move forward…
What do you do when you feel lost?
What do you do when you can’t see through the fog of disappointment, grief or a life that looks nothing like the one you were hoping for?
What do you hold onto when you feel like you are grasping at nothing but thin air?
When you find yourself in this precarious place, you need to start by giving yourself the space to express whatever emotions you are feeling, whether they make any sense to you or not.
These times in our lives when we feel lost most often occur right before a big breakthrough or a change of course, and by allowing yourself the space to express whatever you need to feel, you are processing and giving voice to old stale energies from the past that are keeping you stuck in old patterns.
When these ideas and feelings surface, it is important to bring truth to the false beliefs and fears that almost always accompany these feelings and remind yourself of your divine identity. You can’t allow voices of the past to continue to affect your present or determine your future.
When you are inundated with feelings of loneliness, staleness, pessimism towards the future, confusion about the present or rehashing the wounds of the past you need to grab onto the truth that is easiest for you find.
That truth can be found within the discipline of gratitude.
The discipline of gratitude is not something where you stuff your true feelings down and then try to convince yourself that you are grateful for something when you are not.
No, gratitude is a choice that you make to consciously examine your life as it currently is and focus in on even the smallest thing that you are grateful for.
When you discipline yourself to consciously realign your thoughts to look for the things in your life that you are deeply thankful for, something almost magical happens.
Gratitude has a powerful way of clearing away the mental fog that does not allow you to see opportunities…
Gratitude opens your ability to receive good things from source…
Gratitude disarms the power of old and stale energies that cause you to ruminate or feel anxious.
Gratitude changes the focus of your life from feeling lost, to feeling thankful.
Gratitude does not force you to be thankful for something that you cannot be thankful for in the moment. It does not mean that you need to be thankful for the loss of a relationship or the failure of a business. Gratitude is instead something that acknowledges things as they really are. It means that in the same measure that you acknowledge your pain or confusion, you give equal voice to the things that you often take for granted.
Feelings of anxiety, pain or confusion cannot co-exist in the same moment as feelings of gratitude…
Start by making a list of ten things that you are grateful for. The first ten things may take some time to think about when you are in a funk, but once you get going your list should begin to grow quickly. Leave your list somewhere accessible so that you can add to it as you think of other things.
Use the following statements to help you key into more specific things that you are grateful for in your life.
I am so thankful for all the positive experiences of my life
I am grateful for supportive and encouraging people in my life
I am so thankful for the wisdom, knowledge and experiences I am accumulating
I affirm my divine identity and my right to love, security and purpose
Begin your discipline of gratitude today and watch as your perspective changes and your world open up to you in the most amazing ways!
